Beaches

Sri Lanka is a cluster of islands for its beaches and beaches are the perfect place to relax with the sound of waves of the Indian Ocean. There are nearly 30 beautiful beaches around Sri Lanka and which are also a major tourist attraction of the country. Sri Lanka is gaining international popularity as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. As country has two monsoons SW and NE affecting different regions of the country at different periods. Beaches in the West and the South West should be avoided from May to September and North East from October to March.

Nilaweli Beach - is a broad sandy beach in the Eastern part of Sri Lanka and suburbs of Trincomalee.

Passikudah - a kilometer long white sandy beach off Batticaloa and the area is protected by a reef. Water is shallow and can walk out into the ocean several meters, sand is white and soft.

Arugambay - a beautiful white sandy beach and blue water and is an ideal place for wind surfing and an international surf destination. Attraction near by Kumana National Park and an ancient temple like Magul Maha Viharaya.

Mirissa - The largest fishing port in the Southern part of Sri Lanka. The small beach town and its large beach are beautiful and attract many holiday makers ,natural jetty is good for swimming. The beach is white with soft sand and water is crystal clear. Mirissa attracts people from all over the world for whale and dolphin watching and for holiday.

Unawatuna - Near the colonial city of Dutch occupation .Unawatuna offers a beach paradise with a large coral reef offshore.

Hikkaduwa - is in the South is an another good surfing destination and a marine national park is behind the beach with its own coral gardens.
